My visit to Berry Pomeroy(the UK's most haunted castle).
This is what seems to be a photograph of a tiny window in an olg-fashioned tower. After hearing the true story behind this sombre place, i couldn't help but take a photo.
The first family to own this castle in medieval times (if you know anything about English history, thats about the 14th century) were the Pomeroy's. Lord Pomeroy had two daughters, Eleanor and Margaret. When Margaret unintentionally fell in love with her older sister's suitor, Eleanor became wildly jealous and imprisoned her in this tower. She left her chained up there for 20 years before growing sick of having to care for her sister and eventually killed her by starving her to death. This is the true documented story! It sounds like something from Furuba.
Anyway, ever since her death, for 700 years, Margaret's ghost frequently makes appearances in this part of the tower. She is known as 'the White Lady' and is described as a beautiful lady, wearing white rags with long, wild fair hair. Those who have seen her are reported to have experienced intense fear, depression and guilt when in her presence. It is also folklore that to seen the White Lady is to die soon. I guess I'm kinda glad i didn't see her.
Anyway, i had to climb down a long, winding, steep staricase to reach this tiny, damp room which i must admit was the one of the most daunting areas of the castle. I can only imagine how the poor girl must have felt,a nd being down there alone was certainly unnerving, though unfortunately i cannot report anything ghostly. I'll post more of my adventures at Berry Pomeroy shortly. This is but one of the many unhappy ghosts that haunt the ruins.
